That's the thing about neocon icons like Grover Norquist. They oversimplify the issues and see the world in absolutes, i.e. "raising taxes is always wrong under any circumstances," "if you oppose domestic fracking you support importing energy from terrorist countries," "if you oppose Pebble Mine you oppose copper mining in general."
No one opposes domestic natural gas development or copper mining. We just don't want these resources extracted in a way that wipes out entire ecosystems or contaminates everyone's drinking water for centuries.
The EPA is reviewing the proposed development for compliance with the Clean Water Act - i.e., the same rules everyone else in the U.S. has to follow. The notion of federal pre-emption of local and state laws applies across the board. There is nothing new or unusual about this instance.
I guess Norquist's followers need everything dumbed down into overly simplistic terms. Same thing goes for the politicians Norquist controls.
Why can't politicians in the U.S. have grown up conversations with their constituents? We are smart enough to understand nuance and compromise.
I own that Grover vinyl. totally holds up.
