The River Restored

From our brother from another mother.
As part of Spring Creek: Ranchers, Anglers, Water and Trout, I recently spent two weeks in Colorado profiling Shannon Skelton. Shannon is the President and CEO of CFI Global Fisheries Management, a comprehensive fisheries management company based out of Fort Collins, Colorado. CFI specializes in stream restoration and does a lot of spring creek enhancement and restoration. Shannon and CFI were breaking ground on spring creek restoration project outside of Gunnison. They invited me along to see how the project starts and next year I’ll go back and see how the project has developed. The idea is to witness first hand the difference the restoration efforts have made to the fishery. While in Colorado, CFI contracted my company Cinema Digital Productions to produce a short corporate film for them and show what CFI is all about. We were fortunate enough to shoot on Ryan Wood’s Sweetwood Ranch and Jerry Allen’s Fish On Ranch as well as the Round Mountain Ranch with Brian Smith from Hall and Hall Partners. There are a few shots of the spring creek project from outside of Gunnison, however the majority of that footage will be featured in Spring Creek: Ranchers, Anglers, Water and Trout. These small corporate films are how I fund my larger Spring Creek documentary. Sponsors help but they don’t provide ANY cash and trust me you need a shitload of cake to fund a 3 to 4 year film project like Spring Creek. I’ve been holding out on KICKSTARTER and will continue to try and do so for as long as I can. Thanks again to every one involved.

@Noobs we "Shannon lovers" are aware of the fish & game issue several years ago. I've known them for years, even during this issue. CFI paid the fine and did the time. They are not defined by that tragic incident, by what they continue to do. Lesser men would have packed up their game and closed their business (which I'm sure YOU wish they'd have done). That they continued is testimony to their character.
If you want to define them by this incident, you are free to do so. I think that living in the past is so very sad.
Those that wish to bash CFI for working, looks like YOU have too much time on your hands. You might want to try working, too. Maybe you'd have a more positive attitude towards those who are carrying this country on their backs.
Hungus, I jumped on CFI's website and discovered that Skelton is a longtime TU member (like since 1987). I also discovered that he has given presentations to TU chapters about CFI's approach to modern river enhancement and restoration. In addition, I discovered via basic research that Skelton has been nominated for the Max Award of Merit from the American Fisheries Society, the Federation of Fly Fishers Conservation Award, and American Fisheries Society’s Carl S. Sullivan Conservation Award. Regardless, this is a fun discussion. Cheers everyone.
Ur the man Jimbob! @Sandy - to assume that those who disagree with you don't work, don't support small business, or are unpatriotic in some way is ignorant....not to mention not even really a supporting argument for CFI. If you want to do your buddy Shannon a favor, I'd learn more about trout stream ecology and then decide what you think. Instead of just blindly supporting a business bc he works hard. I know a drug dealer that works really hard too....well, maybe not, but you get my point!!
I find it funny when you guys say that CFI should enhance rivers and streams for free! Well, how bout you guys do your job for free. Please tell me how that works out for you.
Thanks Adam, appreciate the info and glad to hear he contributes to TU.
