The problem is the area isn't likely going to be able to absorb the pressure that'll come from a movie like this.

yes, Jim Williams is correct.

I am not as concerned as jim very vast area and i asume no names will be mentioned. Plus more people will care about the area. It has gotten so popular that i dont go there on the weekends.

I saw the above comment by Jim and I had to write something.

I grew up in the driftless area and had 6 different creeks with in 10 - 20 minutes from my house. There is no way a little fly fishing movie will impact this fishery.

This will never become a trout destination fishery like MT, ID or WY and a trout fishing movie will NEVER impact this fishery. This video will be seen by about 25,000 people on the web and/or at fly fishing film festivals. I would say hardly any of those people will actually make the trek to the great cheese state of Wisconsin. The driftless area is fairly isolated, not many hotels and these creeks and streams are plastered all over the SW and Western part of the state which makes it a long drive from any major airport or city. Hey Milwaukee how long does it take you to get to your favorite drift less trout stream? You really believe that it will actually overpopulate the creeks and hurt the fishery....give me a break? Most destination trout fisherman will not go to a place that has such a low trout population per river mile, small fish in size and really tough fishing. Don't get me wrong if you know how to fish these creeks, put your time in during the season and where to go to get access, you can find some big fish, really big fish. But you guys are whining about something that will never happen!!! Go explore and find some little creek barely on the maps like most of us do to beat the crowds.

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW YOU THINK THIS "area isn't likely going to be able to absorb the pressure that'll come from a movie like this."??

"World class" and "a real gem" Not for long.

Enough trout to keep folks happy. Just stay away from the carp.

Crawford, Richland, Vernon and Grant counties, have over 900 miles of trout streams. And the fishing is only getting better every year.

I booked my flight. Also told my spin casting buddies.

It seems like a tragedy that people still make movies about areas like this. It's a cool video; it really makes me want to fish this area for myself, and I think that's the problem with videos like this.

I fish small streams in Maine and New Hampshire fairly often, and my firsthand experience has been that they can't handle much pressure at all. I usually fish one stream and then leave it alone for a week or two.

Hopefully it works the way that Cabin Owner suggested, and actually causes more people to care about the area.

You people are clueless that think this video will "ruin" this area! Do you know what happens to areas that no one knows about? That no one cares about? They build fricking oil pipelines through them you morons. I am soooo tired of people "protecting" a resource by trying to keep it a secret! You want to protect a resource? Get people to fish it...regularly...and lots of them! The more people that fish it. The more people that care about it. The more people "invest" in it emotionally and monetarily! The more protected, preserved, and better it will become! Hell...get some millionaires up there building some fricking cabins so that when the pressure to mine it, build oil and gas pipelines, and steal the water to pipe it somewhere else, you will actually have some people with money who give a damn and can help fight the bad shit...and I mean the really bad shit...de-watering, mega-erosion, eco-system murder.

Or do you want to fight that battle all by yourself? Out of your own bank account? Good luck with that!

I've fished it....lots of small Trout. Nothing that could ever be considered for "Slab Of The Month"....never. A HUGE Trout there is 12-15"!

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGoonch

Clueless, I think I love you.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterwestsierra

Don't even tell me that's Len Harris! He's more responsible for whoring that area out than the movie ever will be.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdeathroe

Awesome trailer R.T. - can't wait to see it on the tour!

I've spent many days in this beautiful area and look forward to getting there again sometime soon.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMT_Fishing_Guru

Goonch, a "Huge" trout here is not 12-15inches.

January 31, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterwinonaflyfactory

Interestingly, I was one of only two commenters who actually used my name. It's amazing how easily "moron" and "clueless" get used when you do it anonymously. Amazing, but also pretty sad.

February 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJim Williams

MaineMan - which is it? A tragedy or what you hope?

I swear man, just stick to what you know - your little patch of the world.

February 2, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterwestsierra

I don't have a dog in this particular fight Jim Williams....but you clearly do. I hope to see your name as the president of the Driftless Foundation some day...you should probably spearhead that group starting now cause you don't know whats coming around the corner amigo. In my opinion its time for flyfisherman everywhere to start fighting for what they believe in....and yes, I do so anonymously because in my particular case it allows me to be most effective in my conservation efforts. Good luck to you.

February 7, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterclueless

I agree with clueless.

We have precious few allies to help us protect our watersheds. Let's get some more, get them interested, and get them invested.

Never fight alone.

February 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStu

I saw NO increase of fishing pressure this past season. I live here and fish here a lot. Now I MUST go to Iowa-see ya and hope you enjoyed the DVD
