Our Plan A is to use hydraulic hammers

The Elwha dam removal project is starting to gain national press attention as illustrated by this story by William Yardley in yesterday's New York Times. The one thing not getting enough attention is the stupid plan to restock the river with hatchery fish from the shiny new hatchery pictured above.

"...the "stupid" plan to restock the river with hatchery fish"
A bit heavy handed in the comment, "unfortunate" perhaps would have been a better choice.
I believe if someone came tomorrow and tried to remove you or I from our homes we would resist...strongly!
I think we can all agree that THAT would be stupid!
But if that removal attempt persisted, say long term, there would eventually be some compromise to quell the action.
The "shiny new" Hatchery, and the control of this fishery, is part of that type of "compromise" outcome.
It's tough having to deal with the after affects of "stupid" behavior on the part of others, but "unfortunate" outcomes always leave the door open for "improvement".
