NOAA’s Sea Lion Task Force Again Discusses Lethal Removal Below Bonneville Dam

We have all been here before.

Some fracturing of support for the lethal removal of predatory California sea lions from the lower Columbia emerged this week during a discussion by the Pinniped-Salmon Interaction Task Force in Portland.

This task force had been firmly behind lethal removal of seal lions in 2007 and 2010 but now some members are walking back their support of lethal removal.

Instead of debating the issue for another 4 years how bout we just shoot 100 of the fuckers and see what happens?

these "fuckers" are just being sea lions. They're adaptable and go where the food is. They have no concept of endangered species. It is easy for them to prey on "our fish" due to human "fuckers" putting up blockades and obstacles for the salmon. it is not right to shoot an animal just because you would rather catch the fish they would just as soon eat. catch and release them as best as can be done, mitigate the predation by beefing up other chinook management strategies. or should we send out patrol boats to shoot the killer whales that feed on the fish as they stage at river mouths?

Aren't there some Inuits that would like a guided trip to hunt the sea lions for sustanance. Jobs for guides and a solution for too many pinipeds? Maybe, maybe not.
