Well thank you so much for that bit of history behind that pattern of fly. I was not expecting that at all. I thought that giant crab was gonna grab that kid or something.

There is a smoking little trophy wife that runs around key west with a dog named Merkin. Hilarious to hear her chasing the dog down screaming Merkin in public!

Actually, Del caught over 500 permit during his lifetime. In addition he never referred to the fly as a merkin, and didn't like it when others did either. It was a fishing buddy of his, I believe, that named it, but it always horrified Del to hear it referred to as a merkin. Del was an incredibly classy individual and didn't sink to that level of humor.
