Red Truck Fly Rods
Tucked in this video of some familiar friends and faces fishing the Eastern Sierras are some glimpses of the new line of Red Truck high performance fly rods from Leland Fly Fishing Outfitters. The new RT line is priced at $199, $299 and $399 with features and performance usually found at higher price points and also includes both spey and switch models.
The mechanics over at Red Truck are so confident in the performance of their new rods that if you purchase one it will become your favorite stick. If you don’t feel confident that it is, then they don’t want you to feel you have to fish it. If your Red Truck rod is not your favorite, send it back.
You can be sure there will be more news and reviews to come on the new Red Truck rods, in the meantime fire up the video then check out the new rods here.

There are some great rods made right here in the USA. Why on this earth would I buy a offshore rod, With companies like Sage, RL & Scott out there?
Its a marketing effort buy Leland to help promote their business, apparently the marketing department need to hire some fresh blood.
Was that a fly fishing video or an Abercrombie & Fitch commercial selling homo-erotic clothing to an 18 - 25 year old demographic?
Get a jig, some threads, blanks, guides, Bellinger reel seat, cork handle and build your own rods. Its addicting and soon you'll be up to your ears in fly rods. I know I am and I end up giving them away.
To those who are talking smack, perhaps you should try fishing one first.
I've been fishing the Red Truck Diesel 11' 7wt on the Deschutes for 5 days now this season, and it's hands down the best steelhead rod I've ever fished. I have a closet full of far more expensive Winston and Sage rods, and they haven't seen the light of day since I picked up the Diesel.
If you've got $800 burning a hole in your pocket, by all means, go buy a Winston. But otherwise, pick up a Red Truck for $299, and you'll still come out in the black after a new reel and line.
Im all about cheep when it comes to woman and booze, but No way in hell I would support a offshore company in the economic state our country is in. Buy American!!!
To all the "I only buy American" folks just look around your house and you'll find yourself in a contradiction! I too would rather buy American but American rod builders would have to drop their prices quite a bit.
I have been working on this for almost two years. That being said here are my responses.
To Moldiest of the Chums (respectfully):
@ I'm confused??? On Homo Erotic Clothing- I think it is weird we turn you on, but whatever Red Truck is an equal opportunity brand.
@SRV- We are an American Company and employ over 17 people. My pay check depends on support from guys like you. I respect and employ the buy American principles. You are buying American when you buy a Red Truck rod. We are the largest dealer of: Sage, Winston, Scott, Abel, and the list goes on. We love and support those companies.
@SRV- On our marketing department- No such thing... Just a bunch of dudes who love fly fishing. We built what we wanted. Sharing our vision of fly fishing.
PS: that campfire scene was shot after about a gallon of early times. We like cheap booze just like you.
@ Spencer- Thank you for the compliment on the rod. That is one of my favorites.
@ Rock out with your cock out- Look out I think you turned on I'm confused??
Put a rod in my hands and I will fish it. It doesn't matter who makes it or how much I pay for it! I love them all, as long as I'm fishing! I'd buy a Red Truck! Life is short, go fishing! Fuck ya, all you fuckers!

I respect your honesty, However, Im sure Red Truck catches , casts and performs just like any high priced rod on the market. In your opinion you think there is enough room in the industry for another "budget" buy rod, I say jump in the pool with the rest of them.
Best of luck, and good fishing.
please.... sniff, sniff,,,,, PLEASE> BWAAHAAHAAHA... If you don't buy one of our rods we'll all have to go and get real jobs like real people and we'll lose all the capital be put into our venture that we all borrowed from our parents, relatives and mortgaged our houses for. So unless you want to see us living in cardboard boxes under a bridge somewhere, THEN BUY OUR FUCKING RODS. So what if you can get one better for the same price on Ebay, or build one with pride for the same price also, OUR FINANCIAL LIVES DEPEND ON YOU BUYING ONE WHETHER YOU NEED ONE OR NOT GODDAMIT.
hahahahaha...... what financial life.
Kieth, I had a blast making this video and thoes Redtruck rods were sweet. Seriously, they casted like they cost $750 and had a logo beggining with the letter "S". You should've stuck around one more night and my SOTM 32" Mackinaw would have been on the video! Damn! I'll start workin on your fly box as soon as I'm done with the big Tahoe Truckee Fly Fishers box I'm working on now. Thanks again to Kieth and Ben from Leland and my hat has some good fishing karma too................
Wow some fat fucking assholes are bitter that they are not these guys. Great video boys. The product looks really well thought out. I really like the bottle opener in the cap. I can't believe that has not been done, so obviously awesome.
If I ever find my self in sf I will try one out.
Please by our rods.......Have you seen lelands website they have real jobs, just a hella of a lot cooler than yours. Not everyone has to be a miserable dick.
A bunch'a fuckin assholes up here. Some of you (and you know who you are) are just not meant to communicate. Of course some of these people are their buddies who do think is going to buy them first. I am more interested that their buddies are willing to get here, only to read poorly written hater swill to defend them.
Fuck you, fuck you, your cool and I'm out
The least you can do is take a little kidding. If you can't take a little fun thrown your way then maybe you should put yourself out there. Ya big pussies.
if I take my camera and focus on one thing, then change focus to another thing, will I be a cooler photographer.. enouph is enouph. The focus change up is getting played out, sorry. H Dizzle fo Shizzle
great vid guys... makes me want to fish.
If you want to find a bunch of dong-faced chuckos just come to MC. It's hard to believe you guys can find SO MUCH negativity in a sport so rad. Seriously. I hope I'm not like you when I grow up. Again, sick vid and I hope to try out one of your rods some day.
Anyone who wants to try one send me an email. I will see what I can do.
George@flyfishingoutfitters.com
No one here is offended! ball busting is 100% acceptable in our office! Thank you everyone for the compliments.
George
EPIC! Made me want to drive out of the city now and head for the river!
Nice vid and the Leland rods I saw in Sonoma were very nice.
There are truly some assholes that visit this site. Probably the same ones who look down their nose to those who spin and/or fish carp.
Die in a fire fuck heads.
@prognosis negative
Mega lame dude. I don't know what's more pathetic, the comments insulting these dudes for working hard on building these rods and their story or your lame comment about focus features while filiming or photographing. Everything is getting played out these days and clearly nothing is good enough for you losers.
Let's see you put together a better video. I prefer to watch something with more substance then just people catching the same kind of fish over and over. This was creative and well thought out, end of story.
@They're all the same guy:
Umm...no, they are not. I haven't thrown, or even seen, the rods but have dropped large coin in the SF shop. Nice shop and good guys. Such cynicism and bitterness.
Dont be a hater. Go ask your USA manufacturer how fat their pocket is? How good is their customer service? How well do their staff treat you, even when you arnt a local.
The fly fishing industry had seemed to be a dying industry in my opinion. Back in the good ole' days we had small mom and pop shops who wrapped their own blanks and tied their own flies. Maybe they had barrels of bucktails to choose from. They were nice, but good luck staying open.
I appreciate Leland's approach to a well priced, well performing(at least!) product. Try one of the Red Truck rods before you grace the world with your intelligent critique. Maybe youll see the difference....
nice work on the video and best of luck guys.
too bad there are so many Beavis & Buttheads on here now trying sooooooooo
hard to be the cool kids. id love to see any of them make a video.
So what if a new fly rod company comes out. Those who say "buy American" look at your house. American made is very few and far between. I agree with utilizing those standards, but you can't also criticize some guys for wanting to start their own brand. Isn't that what we all strive for? Having our own perfect product? Maybe that's what these guys started Red Truck and maybe they wanted to share that product with us without charging an arm and a leg. Just maybe, but even if it isn't that ideal who cares. We live in America and can buy whatever we want and sometimes cant even afford. So buy the rods or don't, but don't try to knock someone else for doing something like starting a new fly fishing rod company. Its not your right or any of ours.
