Monday, August 30, 2010 at 12:00AM
El Paskador sent us the link to this video of Bob Clay showing how to cast a 12 foot Bamboo "Riverwatch" Spey rod. This video walks you through several techniques and ideas that will help you find your cast better.

Typical Airflo line. The running line looks like a phone chord. Memory, memory, and more memory. Never fished an Airflo line I liked. Come on Tim Rajeff, $10 says he wasn't using Airflo line when he set all his casting records...........
Love those bamboo doubles and Bob Clay is a great guy to deal with.
Does anyone ever catch a fish with that thing or is it just about posing and casting. You never see anyone ever catching a fish with a spey rod. They're just looking all "traditional" and old timey like, but I don't think they ever catch anything.
Your basic fly rod is much more versatile and better for actually catching fish. Spey rods are just another way for all the fly fishing gadget freaks to get something new to spend money on. Try dead drifting a dry fly or deep drifting a nymph with a 12' rod on a spring creek.
I bought one of Bob's 12 foot bamboo rods a few years ago. He has designed them to work with the shorter heads most of us are using these days. I've fish the rod hard for 2 full seasons, and not had a single issue with it. I've just had to make a few minor adjustments to my casting, as compared to my graphite rods. Love it.

good you all can stick with your single handers and indis and think you know how to fish...because its all about the numbers...guess what no one gives a fuck what you think
Us single handers will fish effectively and actually catch fish throwing flies that simulate what trout, salmon and steelhead actually eat. You, "dbags" (and how appropriate is it that you call yourself "dbags" as in douche bags and you mention numbers since you're not just one, but multiple douche bags wrapped into one asshole) can be concerned with your numbers like how big your rod is, or not as the case may be. How far you can pointlessly throw your line and how much money you wasted so you can be all cool with your spey rod. Enjoy your not catching fish on that massive hatch while you listen to my hardy reel scream.
Really? I mean, REALLY? Oh wait, I get it. You guys fish for lakebows in cricks. Try covering a 200 yard gravel bar run with an indicator.
And Airflo is the shit, no doubt about that.
Anyone who identifies themselves by the type of fishing rod they use is a d-bag of epic preportions!
I prefer a centerpin over all your gay fly rods. Talk about numbers!
Richard.
HAHAHA!!! Good response Dick.
Next you tools should go watch some gay porn then comment how gross it was. Note to tools, if you don't like Spey casting don't watch a damn video about it.
I slayed it this weekend with my spinning reel instead of my fly rod, NUMBERS BAM! VIAGRA, AMERCIA, F yeah!
wow ,so much hate for the spey ,I have caught plenty of fish on a spey rod ,it isnt about looking cool .It is a different way of fishing and you can have days with numbers ! Sure indicator fishing is effective ,and you can catch more fish that way .Thing is you catch one on the swing it is a different deal and it takes skill you cant just set the hook ,and it takes time to learn . If you want to put fish in your freezer use a spinning rod or bait .For us spey guys it isnt so much about numbers as it is the battle and actually hooking up ,and we do catch fish on those rods .personally it is about the challenge of catching a fish on the fly .If you dont like it dont do it ! Just shut up and fish is all I have to say ! Man society makes me wonder ,some days .I see stupid people ,and they are all around me ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
