Sage Unveils New Brand Identity, New Rods and Three Press Releases
08.17.2010 – (Bainbridge Island, WA) – Sage Manufacturing announces an exciting new brand identity to kick off the 2011 season. Without changing the essence of the brand that anglers around the world know well, Sage has updated its logo to show a refined view of its position in the fly fishing world.
The new graphic icon or bug is reminiscent of a fly that anglers use regularly. It gives Sage a fresh identity without changing who Sage is or what Sage does best; which is build incredible fly rods and reels. Through an intensive process to determine and develop new objectives and ideals for Sage, this new logo was created with an innovative look which is reflected in Sage’s up to date product offerings.
08.17.2010 – (Bainbridge Island, WA) – Sage Manufacturing, fly fishing industry leader, announces the launch of a completely new family of fly rods with the VXP series. Combining versatility and power with the smoothness that Sage customers have come to expect.
The VXP is the most powerful fast action rod Sage offers at a mid-price point with plenty of high-end features. With ultra high line speed and a slender shaft design that reduces overall weight, each rod in this series is exceptionally smooth and responsive. A beautiful Shadetree Green shaft is appointed with Dark green, Silver and Black trim wraps and hard-chromed snake guides. The freshwater models feature an anodized aluminium reel seat with a walnut diamond-wood insert and the saltwater and spey models have a full anodized aluminium reel seat. All VXP rods are 4-piece configurations.
08.17.2010 – (Bainbridge Island, WA) – Sage Manufacturing, fly fishing industry leader, creates the lightest and most responsive fly rod series to date with the TXL-F family of rods. Successfully surpassing the performance of the TXL series, the TXL-F series of rods are beautifully crafted and are the ideal performance rod for fishing tiny flies with ultra light tippets.
With ultimate sensitivity in mind, the TXL-F family is reduced in weight from the TXL series by 33 percent by the development and use of Micro Ferrule Technology and an exclusive ultra-light guide package. The ergonomic, snub nose, halfwells grip handle offers increased feel and superior control. A sophisticated Bronze anodized reel seat, with a natural walnut insert, gorgeously set this rod apart. The 4-piece configuration is ideal for travel as is the custom 1 5/8” Antique Bronze powder-coated aluminium tube.

and I reckon they'll cost around $1,000 buck-a-roos!
Is that logo supposed to be like the young lady/ old lady thing? I see a bug, which looks like a moth to me, but I also see the head of a space dog wearing "Geordi La Forge" sunglasses. Could just be me.
Instead of an icon that looks like a bug (which took some effort to see), maybe they should have made an icon that looks like a bat. That might fit in better with copy writing that reads like "bloodcurdling tales of horror and the macabre." That's okay, the same site told me I write like H.P. Lovecraft too.
You can buy all those sage fly rods that ended up in all those closets that never got used because all those people who bought all that fly fishing equip. found out that fly fishing is not like in the movies. You can get brand new rods and reels for pennies on ebay.
Oh look another new line of rods...Winston canceling the BIIX in favor of the B3X...Sage making the same move with rod series. Why can't they leave well enough alone? Two FINE series of rods go by the wayside.
I suppose the "keeping up with the Jones" thing is good for business with the rich crowd and all, but dammit, I want to be able to go and get my BIIX whenever the hell I want!
You're right Jeremy. I can't stand when you come to love a certain rod over the years and decide to get another one in a different weight and they've discontinued the damn thing. One of my favorite Sage rods was the old school VPS and you can't find 'em anywhere, not even used. Oh well, their sticks are the best there are and they're milking me for at least $350 a year to pro-form a new one. The 99 just became my 17th freshwater fly rod.
Jeez, I think that these companies are coming out with new fly rods quicker than my cellphone carrier is coming out with new phones. Maybe companies like Sage should switch over to selling me their customer service and just rent the rods out to me.
looks like pacman with a mohawk or a butterfly dry.
IMO Sage should re-introduce some of their old lines instead of concentrate on stiffer, cast-only rods. I'd be first in line. Anyone listening?
SLT, LL, VPS......................
Looks like some aggro Pacman with a Trojan helmet. waka waka waka waka.
Holy Effing Corporate logo. Crack team of marketing wunderkinds over there in Seattle.
Puke.
Windsurfer. that is my guess. Though more and more I am siding with Train Wreck "space dog wearing "Geordi La Forge" sunglasses."
I'll stick with my cheap Redington RS2. I don't need thousands of dollars worth of fishing bling to catch trout.
Hmmm, that's weird about the logo. Why not update it more than doing it 1/2 assed? They roll out new rods each season. They are the Nike of fly fishing. My 6 Winston B2MXs are doing just fine. I haven't used my Sage in two years.
Anyone really believe the b3x will be a better rod than the 2x?
