I think that Slab of the Month entries should showcase proper fish handling tactics and information of whether the fish was released or kept.
Seconded. I further think that SOMs should have a decent photograph.
I'm guessing from the state of the cobia that it is now appearing at a grill somewhere in Stuart, FL.
Would you really not vote on an excellent fish if it wasn't handled according to your snobbish standards? Sometimes I hate this sport.
Cobia will poke you and are delicious so I would have to say that he is holding it correctly. Definitely slabworthy!!
I do not think that they are "snobbish standards. They are just standards that should be upheld. If you sometimes "hate this sport" then maybe you should do something else. I grew up fishing salt water and not with a fly rod but we never used fish holders and if the fish started bleeding we did not release it. I am not arguing that this fish isn't big, but if we are going to have SOTM there should be standards that are upheld. This is not even a good photo. Not worthy in my mind.
@ranier fisher
I completely agree with you.
Ditto to Rainier Fish. Let's at least see if somone on the boat knows how to take a photo period, this was likely their 4th or 5th attempt after shooting it backwards first and capturing a blurry macro shot of their eye...
Look at the stats for SOTM.......haha!
