Interior Department opening Colorado's North Park to gas and oil drilling

The North Park area holds a special place in my heart. It's the home of some wonderful fishing, but more importantly a place full of memories of great times with family and friends. It is also a place of unspoiled beauty which is now set to to be scarred by drilling pads, truck traffic and all the associated noise and dust.

Over the protests of conservation groups, federal land managers are moving to open 11,160 acres of North Park for gas and oil drilling.

The valley between the Zirkel and Medicine Bow mountains sustains antelope, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, raptors, trout and sage grouse.

I know what I'd do

Not saying this is a good or bad place to drill. I don't know it. But I have one question regarding the immediate negative response to any proposed drilling. Is there anywhere on this planet, that has oil reserves, where it is acceptable to drill?

Yes... Texas

It should be noted that during the initial sale of parcels, only 2 of the 11 available (about 1,470 acres out of a total of 11,073) got bids. See the follow up article from the DP for more details http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_15082661.

it's a shame, look what oil drilling is doing to my fishing grounds in the gulf. now that i can't post fishing reports i have to read fishing reports. check out my new website for more on the oil spill.

If you don't like oil or natural gas drilling, stop buying and driving big ass mother fucking trucks and SUV's. Go get yourself a penis enlargement procedure to compensate you for your affliction known as micro penis. Other than that shut the fuck up and mind your own god damn business.

May 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterHey, fuck you

"Hey, fuck you" is right on.

People act like big oil is evil and all this shit and yet many buy and drive huge fucking SUVs and trucks.

It is wrong for a redneck to drive a huge truck.....

Yet It is okay for a fly fag to drive a huge truck......

What a bunch of fucking hypocrites.

or we seize places like saudi arabia and other areas that already hate us and are a breeding ground for terror cells

It's always amusing to read the various posts that come out on this website. I read them frequently and often laugh and agree with many of the things stated.
But let's stop and think for a minute about domestic drilling. Is it really as damaging as the media would have us believe? Sure, it's loud and might disrupt the wildlife in the area a little at first. But if it, in fact, is so damaging to wildlife, then why are there huge herds of deer, elk, and antelope within a few yards of drilling rigs? I've personally watched deer and antelope bed down in the shade of producing wells condensate tanks, and drink from the clean water sources drilled to help drill those same wells in what would otherwise be void of water sources. A lot of the guys that work in the oil and gas industry are huge outdoorsmen and women, and care a lot about the wildlife and watersheds in these remote places.
I'm sure many of you casting your stones at the drilling industry are sitting comfortably in a warm house being heated by natural gas, and cooking dinner with gas that came from the ground beneath your feet. What would you have the American public do, import more of it from foreign countries and send US dollars overseas? Think about the cars sitting in your driveway. Whether it's a big SUV, truck, or even a small car....they all run on gasoline. So you contribute to the problem in your own little way, whether you like to admit it or not.
Maybe we could all just ride bicycles and heat our homes with wood and dried cow shit. Oh wait, then we'd have methane gas from the shit burning and deforestation and erosion from too much logging. Kinda like what's happening to our steelhead rivers in Western Canada.
Don't get me wrong, I think what's happening in the gulf right now with the spill is awful. It's a tragedy that could've been avoided. But what the media doesn't talk about are the thousands of successful and safe wells drilled every year that provide income for families and meet the needs for the rest of us. The fact is, we Americans are extremely dependent on gas and oil. Period. And until someone figures out something better, it'll continue on like it is for many years to come.

Fuck you! Maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and use as much fucking oil as you possibly fucking can. If I could drink that shit I would. The faster we run out, the better.

oil and natural gas are going to be around beyond our lifetimes.
it is abundant and a relatively inexpensive energy source.
once released uncontrolled into the environment,it is not a pretty thing.
it is however, much less damaging or dangerous than an uncontrolled nuclear accident.

when another abunadant, non subsidized form of energy becomes less expensive to produce an consume, then and only then will we see the demise of refined crude products for use as fuel. economics will see to it.

It appears that the gentelman named F&%$ you needs to get current on today's events. In case you missed the memo, we ARE consuming oil as fast as we can. You're helping out. Thanks.
