I wish America's middle class was as obsessed with civics, raising happy/healthy children and community outreach as it is with designer shoes, handbags and desperate housewives. Maybe then we'd be more aware of the silly political "wedge issue" tactics used to galvanize and divide us. Maybe we'd even stop voting against our own best interests.
