What is wrong with these people?

It's a Pavlovian frenzy of conspicuous consumption.

I wish America's middle class was as obsessed with civics, raising happy/healthy children and community outreach as it is with designer shoes, handbags and desperate housewives. Maybe then we'd be more aware of the silly political "wedge issue" tactics used to galvanize and divide us. Maybe we'd even stop voting against our own best interests.

Oprah is America's new shaman and this is her 2010 potlatch.

Wait till she runs for political office. More free handouts, but this time we will be paying for them.

You get a Z-Axis, and you get a Z-Axis, and you get a Z-Axis, and you get a Z-Axis.

"Wait till she runs for political office. More free handouts, but this time we will be paying for them."

You mean more free handouts for large corporations, investment banks and agribusiness? We are already paying for those...and they are infinitely more expensive to the American people than any programs that benefit the poor.
