Musky Country - Zero to Hero Trailer
Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 12:05AM
Up until now filmmaker and Styx fan Robert Thompson has been flying under the radar, that's about to change with the release of his film Musky Country.
I embedded the new trailer but you should also go to his site and watch some of his 2009 videos, particularly September Wisconsin and October Michigan....really good stuff and some stellar tunes.
Check it out @ Third Year Fly Fisher

RT aint no joke. Anxiously waiting to see this flick on the Film Tour.
RT is the man....period. Agreed T-Pain, look out Film Tour!
People have been catching muskie on the fly for decades. Myself since 1976. I am happy to see these young fellas get their feet wet.
looks like some good shots and interesting fishing. but come on guys to much drama. i just want to see some good fish and hear some decent music. all of the recent videos, has been the same shit. also save the self indulgent interviews for yourself we dont care how hard you fish. anyone with passion for the sport has hard days. my prediction is that we will see 5 min of wicked footage and 30 min of crap. the drake film fest has it right by keeping the films to 5 min.
Hillary,
Thanks for chiming in! I know what you mean...My grandfather who taught me to flyfish and tie flies was catching Muskie and pike in the 1940's and 50's. While I'm glad these guys are doing their thing, it is funny to hear them refer to themselves as pioneers.... I myself have been doing this since the early 90's on these rivers and I'm amused by the self promotion. Looks like it might be a good video to watch, and I wish these "mud ducks" well in their efforts.
I dunno, maybe some videos can be a bit dramatic, but it's not undue in this case. Considering the crappy weather that normally produces good muskie fishing, the size of the flies and how taxing it can be to cast them all day, and the challenge of staying ready and on guard for what might only be a couple shots that come over the course of 8 hours of fishing, I have to agree that muskie fishing is as physically and mentally difficult as any type I've done. Some saltwater fishing is definately comparable, but compared to muskie chasing even the worst day of trout fishing is still a walk in the park.
There is no good fishing in Wisco or Michigan. We are all gun toting bible beaters. STFO.
How does a day fishing translate into only 8 hours? Bah-hahahaha!
One might as well be "in the office"!!!
what is this the toot your own horn blog? awesome overalls in the film. i'm sold
Pioneers? hardly...musky on the fly isn't new...just under the radar. Guess all the brahs will be trading their carp rods for 10wts now...
I still enjoy some good fish porn though...
Just another "I'm better than you film." Muskie grabs are cool, the fight isn't usually too much. Steelhead are better. I wonder if these guys will see the day when drift boat after drift boat is hammering their "sacred" musky country?
I agree with the other critics of this trailer. All this stoner talk about how cool some fishery in he midwest is = lame. just fish and shut the fuck up hippy! As far as I could tell its just glorified pike fishing for freshwater boots. Fish for fish with a beat like chromers in oregon or coastal predators in the salt, but please stop telling me how technical you are for chugging poppers with plenty of casting room is. peace
gotta go with 'aprils agent' on this one.
save the drama for your momma boys. you're not conquering Everest, you're going musky fishing.
come out to the westcoast and spend a week on the thompson trying to find a steelhead. you'd be begging to go back to a driftboat on your little canal.
