The Trout's Eye View Fly Tying Mirror is designed to allow you to easily and effectively view your fishing fly as the trout will see it.

Kudos for trying to see things from a fishes perspective but, I'll save my 39.99 and look at my flies in a clear piece of tupperware.
a little excessive. just another fly fishing gimmick
.... you're gonna see your fly the same way a fish does????
There really is a sucker born every second in the fish biz.
trout eat my flies just fine without the mirror
i think this would be fun to make but i would never spend the money on buying one
I'm glad I'm not alone in the review of this thing. Like 99% of the new flyfishin' gadgets each year, this one promises more than it can deliver. You may be able to see it like a fish does, but until you can actually think like a fish it doesn't do much good.
You know, you could just toss it at some trout and they'll tell you if they like it or not. ;) LOL
I like that some of you appreciate the idea of trying to see things from a fishes perspective. I can also appreciate how some would choose to make one themselves, or use Tupperware. (After all, I''m kinda "thrifty" myself.)
Check out the feature article in 'Fly Fishing Tails Magazine' on this topic, which also discusses "What the fish thinks"!

In the article I admit that the most single important thing that you can do is "pick up a rock, look at the bugs, and fish something similar". Still, you are going to be surprised at some of the other stuff discussed in this article.
Does anyone NEED a TEV mirror? Probably not. But to be fair, most of us don't NEED some of the fly tying materials, or the nicer fly boxes, or other angling gear that we buy. We choose to buy them because they enable us to appreciate the sport a bit more, and maybe they work just a little bit better than the alternative.
Either way, do look at the bugs, which can be as much fun as the fishing.
Take care,
Mike
