anytime you see a chartruse glow bug the size of a golf ball in the mouth of a brown trout, in low clear water????????snag or lift is what I am thinking

JG,

No, those fish will eat that kinda of stuff, even in low water... I have witnessed it myself...

Indeed they will eat em, that's standard fare for the water. I know that tree, too, have a picture somewhere with a 33" brown taken with that tree in the background.
I love the premise behind it, I dig the guys and the camera work. Look forward to the full reel.

Not bashing, those are great fish....I have fished new york brown trout run and watched alot of people fishing size 4 sucker spawn and hitting kings and browns in the nose. The places I fish, with wild trout anyways are very spooky in low water conditions and would never touch a chartruse glo-ball, but that being said those still are great fish and I would love to catch them, but maybe with a size 18 pheasant tail on 4x

Forgot to add that You can tell that these guys fish their ASS off and know what they are doing...I can tell you that if fish in this river eat stuff that big in those water conditions, I would love to fish for them.

JG, you can do that too. Winter, early spring will bring bwo's that turn some of those same carnivores into selective fish. They're also not shy about slamming a #4 Zoo Cougar like no ones business.

zoo cogar is different, you don't fish them under an indicator, I was making a comment about the brown trout with the glo-ball in his mouth. I know fish are still active, all I was saying is that alot of people locate trout, and smack them in the nose with somthing they can see in the water like a "glo-ball" in chartruse.....Not calling these guys out, Like I said, they know what they are doing and the may be better fishermen the me. I am just skeptical about the methods used to catch spawing salmon and trout. I still to this day do not think that king salmon in the great lake tribs will eat while on spawning beds. I will put my high sticking and indicator fishing against anyone, and did not land one king salmon. Everyone else was, but they were lifting or using a size 4 chartruse glo-ball and smacking them in the nose. "If you are real good you can put them right in the mouth" was a quote from a local in New York. I just cant bring myself to do that. By the way, This is a film that I would buy, Good work on the video

Oh, I'm not discounting you at all, nor was I indicating anything with the Cougar. Just saying they will eat things other than egg patterns, that's all.
I don't disagree with you about some of the methods used to catch spawning fish, but I also know that in this instance it's a legit thing (not saying you said anything otherwise.) Been there, was the same sort of skeptic, and had it proven that wasn't the case.
Cheers man, no harm, no foul.

Enough said, good point: No Harm

Anyone can catch spawners. How about they hit those same rivers in high summer, catch the same quality fish, then i'll say they are skilled

November 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterme

Those fish aren't there in the summer, they are in Lake Ontario. And catching those browns during the spawn isn't as easy as it looks. It does become easier after they spawn however. At that point they will crush streamers, egg patterns, nymphs....pretty much anything before winter sets in. Plus you will have more steelhead in the system too! The point is you don't have to travel to exotic places to catch trophy fish. They are right here in our back yard!!
