I am no purist. I will use anything, super-realistic, fuzzy junk, even spin if it works to catch fish. But let's not kid ourselves here, this thing is not a fly. This ought to be classified in its own category beyond fly or artificial. Why don't they just infuse powerbait fish crack into it and call it an artificial fly bait. Jack Daniels for an alcoholic salmonid in Alaskan spawn waters. Super Fly. The Curtis Mayfield Special. I'll have to remember that one.

you have to hate 'em a little to throw something like this at in their faces.

If there are any chum readers out there that have had their arse handed to them by Mr. Steelie, and feel intimidated - do yourself a favor. Pinch the barb, nymph the pattern, land the fish efficiently, release fish, and pat yourself on the back. You are now a steelhead fly fisherman. When you want to graduate to feathers, go for it. We've been fishing steel for years - feathers and glue. And, we've never lost one minute of sleep pitching glue.

fwiw, wasn't busting your egg sacs here. or not too much anyway. just saying that thing is not a fly - not that it shouldn't be used. part of my comment was inspired by visualizing a real simple yet incredibly effective(looking)and elegant invention. that thing just looks deadly. like fish crack.

No worries Chris - didn't mean to come off on a soapbox at all. Just wanted to reiterate that this is quite the hymen busting tool for steelhead virgins.
