GoPro Reveals HERO3+

The flagship Black edition is now 20 percent smaller, there are  improvements to the optics, which GoPro claims gives a 33 percent increase in image sharpness, while reducing artifacts by a factor of two. Feature-wise there's a new 1080 "SuperView" mode which takes footage from 4:3 aspect ratio, and presents it in an immersive 16:9 view. Other improvements include a new auto-low light mode that will adjust the frame rate on the fly, revised audio internals, four times faster WiFi and wireless camera updates via your phone. Despite all of these additions, and the smaller form, it's claimed that your new GoPro will potentially offer up to 30 percent extra battery life, too.

And available now.

Nikon launches the world’s first digital waterproof / shockproof interchangeable lens camera

The AW1 is waterproof down to 49-feet deep without any protective housing. While the camera technically works with any Nikon 1 series lens, it's only waterproof when you're using one of two new lenses: The AW 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6 and the AW 10mm f/2.8.

The camera will sell in a kit with the 11-27.5 lens for $800, or in a two-lens kit with both optics sets for $1000.

GoPro Studio 2.0 Hands-On

GoPro Studio 2.0 is scheduled to be released today

The GoPro video editing suite is essentially, a pared-down editing program, designed to make putting together your personal highlight reel easier. It provides a simple way to import footage, speed it up or slow it down, crop, and make image adjustments (like removing the fisheye lens distortion, or adjusting color or contrast). It's also handy for making a timelapse out of a bunch of stills, and perhaps best of all, it's much easier to work with footage shot at different resolutions/frame rates compared to even pro-level editing suites (no conversions required). The newest feature, which actually might tempt people to use Studio 2.0 for action cam videos, is templates.

Garmin Enters the Action Cam Fray

Garmin's new Virb action camera enters a crowded market with good options at the top (GoPro Hero3 Black Edition) and bottom (Monoprice MHD) of the price range. It's a little late to the game, but it's got enough features that you might consider it against the alternatives.
