New Pentax W90

Pentax has announced their new W90, a heavier duty waterproof and shock proof point and shoot. The new Microscope mode will be good for taking those bug close ups.

The twelve-megapixel Pentax Optio W90 is a heavy-duty water and shockproof digital compact camera that also provides an all-new Digital Microscope mode. Combining a macro shooting capability from one centimetre away with the Digital Zoom function, the Optio W90’s new Digital Microscope mode delivers a magnified view of miniscule subjects difficult to observe closely with the naked eye.

Priced at $329.95 USD, the PENTAX Optio W90 will ship in April 2010. A waterproof infared remote control  (sold separately) for use with the PENTAX Optio W90 and other infrared compatible Optio models will be available at the same time for $29.95 USD.

Casio EX-G1 Review

The Photography blog has an in depth review of Casios' latest waterproof point and shoot camera the EX-G1. The review covers every aspect of the camera and includes links to reviews of all the EX-G1's main rivals. If you're in the market for a new waterproof point and shoot camera this is a great resource.

I'm a big fan of the Pentax program and Eric has had great success with his Olympus. If I were in the market for new camera in this class I'd lean towards the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 with Leica lens. You can also pick up a TS1 for $249 on Amazon as they clear inventory to bring in the new model.
