GoPro Unveils the Hero3

At a special event in San Francisco last night, GoPro launched its latest action camera: the Hero3. Compared to the Hero2 that it succeeds, the new camera is both more portable and more capable. It’s 30% smaller and 25% lighter, making it great for helmet cams and attaching to random things. The image processor inside is twice as fast, allowing the camera to shoot both video and photographs at faster frame rates.

The camera comes in three flavors: Black, Silver, and White. These don’t just differ in color, but in features as well.

Sony Action Cam

Its existence wasn't a secret, but Sony's Action Cam is now no longer a prototype.

Featuring HD video recording at 1280 x 720, 60 or 120 fps (for slow motion) or 1920x1080 at 30 fps. The camera sports a 16-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor, and a 170-degree Carl Zeiss® Tessar lens and will be available next month in a regular version for $200 and a Wi-Fi version for $270.

Included with the camera are a shockproof/waterproof case and two adhesive mounts. A variety of mounts for both your head and gear will be available. There are also plans to have a body that you can drop the Action Cam into, making it a more traditional handheld camcorder with a 2.7-inch flip-out LCD display.
