A demonstration in Santiago drew some 30,000 people opposing those proposed dams in Patagonia.

Another protest on the issue is planned this Saturday.

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera rejected criticism Wednesday from environmentalists and politicians, including some from his own ruling coalition, over his support for new hydroelectric dam projects in Patagonia.
