Five years ago a caustic soda spill into BC's Cheakamas river wiped out all life in the river that included five species of salmon, bull trout, resident rainbow and cutthroat trout and multiple generations of steelhead.

Scientists at the time predicted it could take half a century or more before the salmon and other fish returned to the river in abundance again...... they were wrong.
